Re-Defining what it means to age well

Senior centers are more than a bingo parlor; they promote lifelong learning, friendship, fitness and a sense of purpose. For nine years, Allyn served as Program Director at Athens Community Council on Aging’s Center for Active Living, partnering with social service agencies, local businesses and academia to provide access to essential resources, socialization, wellness programming, and travel and volunteer opportunities that keep active older adults engaged and connected.

Humanizing healthcare through design

The built environment has the power to heal. From exposure to sunlight to the design of a hospital room, design can improve health outcomes. As a design researcher, Allyn has worked alongside architects, designers, and medical professionals to understand the needs and challenges of patients, families and caregivers. Through listening and collecting stories, she creates insights that inform the design of spaces and experiences that provide comfort and support.
